Getting Started with GoHighLevel Cold Email Automation

Build Up Your Email Audience

Build a targeted list of potential customers by uploading existing contacts or capturing leads through website forms integrated with your GoHighLevel account. You can add your leads to your GoHighLevel sub-account through the Contacts menu. Switch from agency view to your sub-account, and scroll down the sidebar to access this menu. Head over to GoHighLevel support for any additional help you require with importing to your account and more.

Design a Workflow Automation

Utilize GoHighLevel's workflow builder to schedule your email sends based on triggers and define automated follow-up sequences for those who don't respond initially. 

Still in your sub-account dashboard, head down and select Automations. Then click on the “+ Create Workflow” button at the top right corner of the page. Start a workflow from scratch and start by defining your initial email (workflow) trigger. Click on “Add New Workflow Trigger.” Your first trigger could be a “Customer Booked an Appointment” or “Customer Replied” trigger. Type your preferred trigger in the search bar on your right to view available trigger suggestions. 

For contact tags, start typing in contact and select “Contact Tags.” Click Add Filter to narrow down your list. For example, on the dropdown, select Tag Added, and in the list that appears beside it, “agency owner” or “ecommerce store.” Then scroll down and click Save Trigger.

Next, click the + icon under your added trigger to add actions for each automation step. On this page, you can choose actions to design your workflow however you want. Your first action can be a voicemail. Type “voice” into the search bar and select Voicemail. Then, you can upload a prerecorded voicemail file or record one online using a voice recorder site such as Voceroo. Scroll down and hit Save Action once you’re done uploading your voicemail.

You can add a waiting period in between actions in your email sequence. Click the add action icon and search “Wait” to open the menu. Set any number of minutes time delay (advisably less than 10 minutes) and then save the action.

After adding the time delay, you can go on to add an email action. Fill in the blank details of the email, such as sender name and email. Design engaging email sequences that grab attention, introduce your value proposition, and encourage a call to action. Personalize your emails using merge tags for better engagement. Your subject could be anything like “Growth Partnership Opportunity With [contact_first_name].” Automatically add the contact’s first name by clicking the tag icon at the right end of the subject menu box. In this custom values setting, select contact and then first name. Scroll further down to find a message box where you get to craft your email. You can also automatically include the contact’s first name via custom values to add a personal touch to your message. Hit Save Action.

Add another Wait action to the sequence before adding an SMS action. Craft your SMS as a follow-up to your email and save the action. Put in another 5-10 minutes wait action before proceeding to the next step. Click on the wait action box to add a “Wait for…Contact Reply” setting before clicking Save Action.

Next, add an if/else action to the sequence to define an automation for whether the contact replies or not. Set reply to SMS and Email and save the action. Edit the first branch title to “Yes.” In the following segments, select Contact Replied and True. Then click + Add Branch button right under your first branch to add a “No” branch where you’ll fill in Contact Replied and False in the following segments. Save Action. 

Now you’ve created a Yes, No, or None condition. Under the Yes condition, you can include a slight wait time before adding a “Manual Call” action, an actual call to connect you to the client for further conversations. Under the No condition, you can add a wait action between follow-up SMS and email actions to reach out to the contact again. Your email subject could be, for example, “You did not get my email?”

Go through the workflow you’ve designed for any changes you might want to implement before clicking the Save button at the top right of the page.
